A Comfortable (Stylish) Head Wrap Can Make Chemo a Bit Easier?

ByJason Taloner

When you have a cancer diagnosis and must undergo chemotherapy which will remove your hair the best option is to wear a head wrap. These colorful items of apparel can be extremely in vogue as well as functional.

The first stop should be to gather up all your own scarves to see what you already may be able to use. Polyester and slick scarves are not a good choice for use with a bald head. They slip off easily as well as make your head sweat. The best choice is to use cotton scarves for this time in your life. If you really want to use the nylon scarves use them as an accent over the cotton scarf.

Check out your local store supporting underdeveloped countries. These type of stores (such as Ten Thousand Villages) usually have a wide selection of unique scarves and you have the added benefit of helping someone in need in addition to gaining beautiful scarves.

You can use rectangle or large square scarves. Avoid the small squares. You want to have a large amount of "tail" after you tie the scarf. And you need to make sure that you can cover your entire scalp with no gaps. One of the problems newbies encoutner in this step--is a tendency to exted the entirety of the cotton fold over the lower nape of the rear hairline. Watch for this. Having the mismatched (and clashing) fabric in this region, may tend to create a so-called "contrast effect" which may make your head wrap a bit too "ethnic" and may hamper your efforts to achieve that casual look.

Do not be shy in playing with your scarf to find the most attractive (and stylish) ways to tie it. One easy way to tie a scarf is to fold it into a triangle. Place the long end of the triangle on your forehead and bring the ends around to the back. Criss cross the ends twisting them and bringing them to the front where you will tie them. Tuck the ends back underneath the twist. The layering will give a more three-dimensional look to your scarf.

You can also layer different scarves to make a more gypsy-ish fashion statement. And the biggest key to looking great in a head wrap is to wear it with confidence. Act like you think this is the best you have ever looked. Add a pair of big dangly earrings to complete the look.
